TRANSYLVANIA AND BUCOVINA 
 
The tour „Transylvania & Bucovina” is one of the classical tours, being a successful combination between three of the most interesting regions in Romania - Maramures, Transylvania and Bucovina.
The tour starts with the ancient region of Maramures, famous for the wood carving, woodenchurches and for „the Merry Cemetery” from Sapanta.
It continues with the UNESCO painted monasteries from Bucovina and then with the worldwide known Transylvania, country of count Dracula, of centuries-old legends and mysteries. 
 
PROGRAM: 
Day  1: Sighetul Marmatiei
A scenic ride through the mountainous and densely wooded Maramures region brings you in Sighetul Marmatiei, the second largest town of the region.
Dinner at the hotel. 
 
Day 2: Sighetul Marmatiei- Gura Humorului
Learn more today about the architectural diversity of the city center of Sighetul Marmatiei with its impressive gothic, baroque and eclectic buildings. Your tour guide takes you next to the small village Sapanta, where you will visit the so called "Merry Cemetery”. The wooden crosses are painted colorful with scenes from the life of the deceased.
Continue next with a scenic drive along the Iza Valley towards Barsana, where you will visit the wooden church from the beginning of the 18th century.
Visit next the wooden church from the village Ieud, which is the oldest church of its kind in Romania, being built in 1364.
Drive through the Eastern Carpathian Mountains towards Bucovina. Dinner at the hotel. 
 
Day 3: Tour of painted Monasteries
Bucovina is famous for its breathtaking landscapes and for the painted orthodox monasteries.
Today you will have the chance to visit three of the most representative monasteries of Romania. Start the tour with the Moldovita monastery, which was built in the 16th century and meet one of the orthodox nuns.
Then, continue with an inside visit at the Sucevita monastery, built like a fortress at the end of the 16th century. Stop for a while in Marginea, a small village near Sucevita, to visit the center of black ceramic.
In the afternoon you will arrive in the village of Voronet, where you will visit the so called "Sistine Chapel of the East”. The Voronet monastery was built in the 15th century and impresses by its beautiful frescoes and by its wonderful blue color. Return your hotel and dinner. 
 
Day 4: Bucovina – Bistrita – Targu Mures
After breakfast drive through the Tihuta Pass(1227m) into Transylvania - "The country behind the Forests”. Stop in Bistrita for a sightseeing tour and discover the Old City Center of this small town, which dates back to the 12th century.
The town’s landmark is the evangelic church from the 15th century with its 75m high tower. Enjoy a scenic ride along the small Transylvanian villages towards Targu Mures.
The sightseeing tour starts on the Alley of Roses, filled with heroic statues and dominated by the town’s top attraction and beloved landmark, the Culture Palace.
You will also see the City Hall, the Archeological Museum and the Medieval Fortress.
Dinner at the hotel. 
 
Day 5: Targu Mures - Sighisoara - Prejmer - Brasov
Explore today one of the few still inhabited medieval citadels in the World – the Citadel of Sighisoara. Settled by the Germans in the 12th century, Sighisoara is also known to be the hometown of count Dracula.
The fortress has preserved very well its 9 towers and bastions, the colorful small houses and the medieval atmosphere. The guided walking tour includes an inside visit of the Clock Tower, today the town’s History Museum.
Afterwards visit one of the best preserved fortifications in Transylvania, the fortified church Prejmer. Listed by UNESCO as World Heritage Site the fortification houses about 270 rooms, a museum and a church.
Transfer to Brasov. Enjoy a traditional dinner with Transylvanian specialties and folk music in the alpine resort Poiana Brasov. 
 
Day 6: Brasov - Bran - Sibiu
Brasov is located directly in the heart of Romania since the 12th century, when a German Knight Order settled down in "Tara Barsei”(Burzenland).
Explore the Old City Center and visit the Old CityHall, which houses today the town’s History Museum, and the Black Church, Brasov’s landmark, from the 15th century.
After some free time at leisure, depart for a visit of the famous Dracula’s castle. The castle was built by the Saxons from Brasov at the end of the 14th century and served as customs between Wallachia and Transylvania.
The legend says that Dracula lived here but the history mentioned the royal family spending their summers inside the medieval castle. Legend or truth can be found out only during the inside tour.
A scenic coach ride along the South Carpathian Mountains takes you to Sibiu. Tonight meet the locals from Sibiel and enjoy a home cooked dinner with homemade wine and brandy at one of the farmer’s houses.
Overnight in Sibiu. 
 
Day 7: Sibiu – Hunedoara – Arad
Settled by the Germans back in the 12th century, Sibiu preserves a wonderful medieval cobble stoned centre with hundreds of historic monuments.
Discover today the heart of Sibiu and its three interlocking squares: the Grand Square, the Small Square and the Huet Square.
At the Grand Square you can admire the baroque Brukenthal Palace, the Catholic Cathedral and the City Hall. The walking tour takes you further to the Liars’ Bridge, the first iron bridge in Transylvania, and to the Evangelical Church, the town’s landmark. Continue to Hunedoara and visit the impressive Hunyadi Castle from the 15th century.
Transfer to Arad and dinner at the hotel. 
 
Day 8: Homewar journey.
